Started in 1974 with the 6800. First cross-assembler was Fortran source code on 2000 punch cards. Had PDP-8 with a card reader, but only PDP11 had Fortran compiler. Only peripheral in common between the two was a paper tape. So the chief engineer and I read the cards on the PDP8, punched paper tape and fed it directly into the PDP11. Nobody was more surprised than we were when it compiled first time.
Retiring from teaching this September. Always looking for interesting things to fill my time, but have a whole backlog of unfinished projects!
