That is an interesting entray. I am looking for an alternative to Keil
and am playing with the idea of the 150 Rowley Crossworks.
Your article will help me selecting a new IDE.
The CrossConnect though costs about 250 which is a bit of steep an
financial outlay for an experimenter - but perhaps worth it.
Is thee no alternative to the CrossConnect?

Hi Jerry,
don't know wwhy I assumed you are using the full version of CrossWorks. You are correct that the cost of a JTAG probe is significant comparing to a 150 license.
J-Link EDU is definitely worth the investment for hobbyists but Cross-Connect is the tool made to work best with CrossWorks and the (excellent) support comes from the same company.
Have fun!

You will notice the difference to the J-Link quite well not only in loading but also in single stepping with the same IDE (CrossWorks). Therefore I mostly use the CrossConnect.

I'm using a Segger J-LINK right now, but it's borrowed from a friend and he's been politely asking for it back for some time now. ;-) I'll start saving my pennies and as soon as I have to surrender the J-LINK to my friend I'll put in an order for a CrossConnect.

Heck--the CrossConnect Lite is a $60 purchase on top of the CrossWorks license when you purchase them together. That's 40% off the price right there If you get a Classic, it's $200. And if you talk to the right person nicely, they usually comp you a CrossConnect Lite.

I can recommend the CrossConnect, as well. I just tried mine with the
SWD adapter (not included) for the first time, on an LPC1343 board, and
it worked OK.

Paul,
The Lite is a nice tip...I'll take a look. I am not up on american
colloquillisms but I assume that "comp you a ..." means "to give
you a...." .
I'll be ordering over Internet so no "right person"..... :-)
Reading most of the entries unter this topic, it looks as though
it'S the Rowley for me: IDE + JTAG.

Don't give up so easily... I suspect either Paul is the right person
himself, or he knows who he/she is.
