Probably cheaper to buy than rent. I presume you have a standard ARM JTAG connector? If so you have lots to choose from but it depends somewhat on which development tools you are using. -- Regards, Richard. + http://www.FreeRTOS.org Designed for Microcontrollers. Adam wrote:> We need a JTAG debugger for board bring-up. > Are JTAG debuggers available for rent? > Any recommendations/suggestions?Lot's of cheap JTAG debuggers around. Remember the hardware is cheap, but be sure it's supported by the open source debugging platforms. See "http://urjtag.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/urjtag/tags/URJTAG_0_10/web/htdocs/book/index.html" and click on "2.3.3. Supported JTAG adapters/cables" Buy one of the supported cables. The MacGraigor Wiggler is very cheap, see "http://mcuboards.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=2028415" but you need a parallel port on the system for it to work (and not a USB to parallel port adapter, though a CardBus parallel port card will usually work. Be sure to use XP, not Vista. "ARM9" is not a chip. Be sure your specific hardware is supported by the development system. Also see "http://www.amontec.com/arm_debug_valuepack.shtml".

If you get one that supports real-time tracing, you can spend close to $10K without trying too hard.> Probably cheaper to buy than rent. I presume you have a > standard ARM JTAG connector? Abatron's BDI3000 sells for about $3K. You can't really get started with a Lauterbach JTAG interface for under $2K-$3K either. Even the Zylin ZY1000 which is designed towork with OpenOCD is over $1K. IIRC, the Mentor/EPI JTAG interfaces are in the $1K-$2K range as well. That's not to say that the $20-$30 FT232 USB interfaces don't work fairly well... -- Grant Edwards grante Yow!
