USB - RS232 cable - Andy J - May 29 1:09:41 2008
Hi all,
I have been working with Dynamic C 8.51 and RCM 3100 on a desktop PC
with physical RS232 port. Now I have a requirement to run Dynamic C
on a notebook without a physical serial port. I purchased a USB-
RS232C converter cable based on Prolific chip, but DC failed to
communicate with the Rabbit uP. The error message I got was "While
Sending PilotBIOS: Target communication error".
The communication settings in DC are as folllows:
"Enable Processor Verification" option has been disabled.
"Use USB to Serial converter" option has been enabled.
I also tried with DC 9.62 and got the same error.
Can anyone advise, whether I need to use a different USB-RS232
converter or is there a workaround?
TIA,
Andy

Hello,
Previously I had this problem as well,
Couple of things you will need to do to test is
Are u able to load program using a serial port (if you have access to
one)
Are u using VISTA as your operating system, since you will need to set
your affinity (only utilising one core)
Check that your USB to serial convertor driver is compatible with your
operating system.
Check that your hardware (programming cable) is connected properly
Try lower baud rates
Make sure the COM port you have selected is correct and installed
properly(check by going into Device manager in the "system" option
located in control panel)
If all above fails
Unfortunately you may need to send it back to your distributor. I had
this same problem and apparently the soldering points on the RED PCD
board are not very good and need to be fixed.
I contacted rabbit support when I had this problem and they sent me a
new rabbit and worked fine.
Kind regards
Rony

Hi Rony,
Thanks for your suggestions. You are right, running it only with 1
CPU solved the problem.
Best regards,
Andy

make sure the compiler has the correct serial port checked
you can see which port it is by looking in the hardware properties
and seeing which port was assigned to the usb to serial converter
once found tell dynamic c which port and it should work

Re: USB - RS232 cable - Jon - May 29 22:29:15 2008
Some cables work well, others poorly. We've been happy with the ones
from Rabbit - they work well and are reasonably priced. For more
info on others, see:
http://www.rabbit.com/cgi-bin/support_bb/discus.cgi
I haven't been able to find this on their current board.
