Unable to halt BasicX - schoiconc - Aug 12 19:36:34 2006

Hi all.

Now, I got error message as follows.
"Error Code 220 Unable to halt BasicX retry?"

Yesterday, I purchased BX24p kit.
When I first powered on that kit , LED always blinks.
'Hello World' test program was working correctly.
I tried to download and run a program.
That program was usually workiing well even though it sometimes got
no data.

Today, I got the above error message when I tried to run the same
program.
LED does not blink any more.

Please, let me know how to fix my problem.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Assuming you are trying the correct port, try starting the download
with the BX-24 unpowered, then apply power.

Hello Tom

Thanks for your kind reply.
I tried your method but it doesn't still work.
Do you have any other method?

The processor is seized by a sequence on the serial port DTR line, which
becomes ATN on the BX-24. Make sure that signal is working by doing the
diagnostic procedure in the IDE; click I/OPorts/ATN Diagnostic and
follow that.

If that appears to be working, perhaps you'll find success on a
different development machine's serial port.

If your using a USB to serial adapter make sure the Windows didn't
switch the port# on you since the last time you booted.

Chris
You have just confirmed what I have long suspected. Why does
windows do this, and how can you stop it doing this?

Neil,

I seldom reboot my PC so I've only encountered this problem a handful of
times.
But I can confirm it does happen and it's a bugger to figure out when
everything
was working one day and not the next.

Sorry, I don't know how to fix this problem. Does it happen to you allot?
Regards,

Chris

Re: Unable to halt BasicX - "nje...@ihug.co.nz" - Aug 15 17:06:08 2006

Hi Chris
I bought a new laptop recently, and use a USB/ser adapter
for the BX24. After finally getting it up & running I labelled the USB
port I was using with the ser port no, so I didn't have to go thru 10
ser ports to find which one was working. Next time I used the laptop,
and the same USB socket, it assigned me a different ser port!!@$#$@#
Does it every time!. A b***** nuisance. Yet I can plug a mouse into any
USB socket and it works every time.Must be more clever than the USB/ser
port adapter.

I had this changing-serial-port number problem with a cheap-o
USB-Serial dongle I bought. I trashed it and found one that uses the
FTDI chipset (their logo was on the package (tiny)). The FTDI drivers
for WIN XP don't have this problem.
