I'm using one at this very moment, on this machine. In the BasicX
IDE, both Download and Monitor ports are set to COM5, an ATEN dongle
on an eMachines desktop. The driver is "ATEN USB to Serial Bridge",
v2.0.0.18 (07-16-2003) under WinXP Home SP2 Build 2600, but it also
runs fine on an identical machine under XP Pro SP1. And it works on a
ThinkPad T31 under WinXP Pro SP2.

I cannot recall having a problem with a Prolific 2303-based adapter. Tom

I have a laptop Compaq Presario Win XP 1.6 Ghz and it doesn't work

I have a laptop Panasonic Toughbook Cf-37 Windows 2000 500Mhz and it
doesn't work...any COM settings don't change the problem...no

BX-24 or BX-24p? I'm running a -24p; I'll try a -24. The ATN
signalling is compatible but different; the dongle's DTR might have
trouble with the BX-24's ATN line. Tom

I am both a user, responding and trying to help you with your problem, and I am a moderator who edits - or rejects - moderated messages as I see fit. Recently, I have rejected (returned to you) or simply deleted some of your messages because I could not determine what part of the message was your contribution, if there was one - and I assume that other readers could not, either. Truly, some of your posts are unintelligible, a mix of some characters of yours - and mostly those of others.

In those old days of a few years ago, when you answered a letter by surface mail, did you include the received letter and envelope in your response and write your answer on that paper, between sentences, in the same ink and style as the original author? Probably not. Do not do that here.

Then you and I are using the same hardware. I downloaded and
installed the driver you pointed to, v2.0.0.19. After installation,
Device Manager still said that v2.0.0.18 was installed. Don't know
why that is, but mine still works.

Try this: once you've identified the COM port to which the dongle is
assigned, open the IDE and open the Download port. Disconnect the DB9
dongle from your project board, reconnect it, then click Reset in the
IDE. If you got an ACK, select and download a compiled project .bxb
file. You should see the light on the dongle illuminate during the
download and you should, of course, be able to run it by clicking Start.

my robot, the servo got centered within a second...WOW...it
works...bur this seems to indicate I have something wrong in my
connections or something like that I guess...I will have to
investigate...but at least I will be able now to experiment my other

always giving clear indications...I'm not familiar with forum
