I believe all the data sheets for the AVR's also include the instruction set
for that particular AVR. You can download them from the Atmel website.

I know. The first thing I do when using a new device, whether it be an AVR,
an RF device or whatever, is download the data sheet and study it. Except
for devices that have become obsolete, these are readily available for free
on the internet. And Google is your friend! If I don't know a particular
manufacturer's website, I just enter the part number and I usually get led
right to it. I JUST did that with a Hittite part number.

All the AVR data sheets I've seen contain just about everything you could
possibly want to know about architecture, instruction sets and
initialization of the various functions. Granted, there may be a few quirks
and it's good to ask about those here when you run into them. But this would
be after trying to write a program based on what's in the data sheet and
there aren't that many quirks I know of. Most of the troubles I've had with
AVR's stemmed from improper setup of the fuse bits.

I agree with what both of you are saying, but keep in mind that the data
sheets just give a summary of the instructions -- usually adequate for
us old timers. If the OP wants more detailed information on the
operation of each instruction, then he needs to install AVRStudio and
look under the assembler help for all the gory details. I thought this
info was available at one time as an app note, but I could be mistaken
or it may have been discontinued by Atmel.

Take it easy. AFAIK simple questions are allowed on this list.

Simple question, simple answer. Job is done.

Re: [AVR club] instruction sets!!! - Zack Widup - Dec 30 10:52:42 2008

Yes, simple questions are OK but I'd assume that a person looking for basic
info would be able to find it or at least look for it on-line himself or
herself before asking for trivial things here. Most of the questions asked
here could be resolved with a simple Google search. And I'd assume a basic
understanding of microcontrollers already.
