Joseph,

Have you played with putting an ATmega32 onto a breadboard and building a programmer? If not and you want to get your feet wet with microcontrollers I would suggest Smiley's book and a AVR Butterfly http://www.smileymicros.com . Or just pick up an AVR Butterfly (ATmega169) and start Google searching and ask questions here or on AVRFreaks.com.

Best regards

I've never done anything that exuberant with an AVR but I'm sure it's=20
possible. The LCD screen for sure would be possible, probably the PS/2=20
keyboard; I've done LCD screens and smaller keypads before. Never did=20
anything with an SD card connected to an AVR.

Thank you,

Your suggestion was really helpful, although, do you think that it could be=
done with only a smaller keypad and not a full PS/2 keyboard.=A0 Every yea=
r I choose an are of interest to work on (since Age 12) and at the end of t=
he year, I try to do a big project, in a matter of weeks.=A0 Any simpler ve=
rsion would be helpful.=A0 If you want me to, I can send you the schematic =
to look at and tell me if I could make it simpler?=A0 Email me back if you =
want to take a look.=A0 I know that other people have told me that they are=
too busy to help me with my project, and I don't want to force it onto you=
..=A0 Oh, and I was thinking a text based OS with a 4/16 screen, and make i=
t real-time.=A0 And about the SD card.=A0 Is there any other version of ext=
ernal memory that would be easier, maybe one that you've tried?=A0 I haven'=
t interfaced an SD card with AVR either, but looking at different schematic=
s, I think that I could do it.=A0 The main part is the IC that reduces 5V t=
o
3.3, but I want to know what you think about it.

Thank you

Hello Slok,

I think it is a plausible idea. Have you considered working with an
opensource OS, study it and then customizing it to your needs?

Hello Joseph,

I think your project is feasible although quite some work.
You might look around at AVRfreaks for routines for some of your=20
functions (i.e. SD/MMC, PS/2 keyboard, LCD) and combine them with=20
your OS (to be). Do you know about AVRX?

For some ideas in hardware have a look at a german page with some=20
(over here) quite popular projects (there is a button for a=20
translation on top of the pages, but we all know what automatic=20
translations are in for ;-)):

Thank you Mr. Uderman,

Actually, that was another plan of mine.=A0 I would think that COPOS (an OS=
from a Cornell student, I looked at it, and it is great), or freeRTOS migh=

Thanks Again,

if you could interface a Mega32 chip with an LCD screen, a PS/2=20

Giggles).=A0 I just need to know if it is a plausible idea, and if you=20

Hello Joseph,

I think your project is feasible although quite some work.

You might look around at AVRfreaks for routines for some of your=20

functions (i.e. SD/MMC, PS/2 keyboard, LCD) and combine them with=20

your OS (to be). Do you know about AVRX?

For some ideas in hardware have a look at a german page with some=20

(over here) quite popular projects (there is a button for a=20

translation on top of the pages, but we all know what automatic=20

translations are in for ;-)):
